Belkin F5D7230-4

details: Wireless G Router
hardware type: Wireless Router
date added: 2007-07-17
updated: 2020-04-11
The Belkin Wireless G Router lets users share files and a broadband Internet connection among their computers-without using networking cables. It features 802.11g technology that makes accessing files and networked peripherals-such as hard drives, printers, CD-ROMs, and DVDs-easier than ever.

802.11g technology provides you with networking speeds nearly five times faster than the 802.11b standard. An integrated, 4-port 10/100Base-T Ethernet switch also allows you to connect wired computers to the network.

Firewall blocks traffic at random, will not connect to anything other than Belkin. If it does connect, it does so ramdomly, then drops out (have tried PDAs, Media sharing hardware and laptops), supplied power supply is not suitable (underrated), support: still no reply since 12/2/05, 18/6/05, 22/11/05 and gave up about then (and counting).

best avoided at all costs.

No problems upto now at all , very easy to set up wireless as well, only problem i can see is there not a custom open source firmware brought out for these type yet :(

Mine works ok, the only problem is lack of settings and problems while in AP mode (eg. can't acces m.youtube.com with mobile phones, can't ping device and access webui if its not bridged to my ruter lan interface, i'm using pfsense) ... and it is difficult do update with ddwrt.

Port forwarding is horrible. Can't get a clear connection for BitTorrent connections.

The port forwarding on this thing is the worst I've ever seen. Also the DMZ kills my internet if I try to use it.

It's impossible to really do anything requiring any sort of communication between 2 devices with this. I can't log into the configuration page. It's as if it doesn't even exist.

It seems to cutout at random.
At first, whenever I tried speeds >700kb/s, the wireless would cutout for all connections, but the wired would still work and then I'd have to reset the router from the web front-end to get the wireless working again.

Now, wired connections also cutout, but randomly and independent of speed.
I now how to have to jump two flights of stairs to manually powercycle the router.
I'm using Telewest/Virgin cable modem with 4GB package.

Poor.

If I may suggest, the F5D7230-4 has a couple of default settings that may be causing the issue. If I'm not mistaken, they are all in the "Wireless" section of the router's admin interface.

1) Turn 'Protected Mode' off.
2) Turn 'Turbo Mode' off.

In my case, since I no longer use 801.11b, I set the router to 801.11g. I also no longer stealth the SSID. The router is set to WPA/WPA-2 and I use MAC address filtering for security. The Firewall on the router is on.

This is a mixed Win/Mac/*nix network.

Hope this helps.

This is a very poor router. All of the advanced features suck.

Very average router. I found I had much better luck allowing my modem to handle port forwarding and setting my router as a wireless access point. After doing that, anything that needed port forwarding became a breeze, however the router settings page is no longer accessible, short of a factory settings restore.
